Small World

I'm constantly amazed at what a small world we live in. I photographed Jess and Jason's wedding in Cochrane, Alberta, and Sally, one of her bridesmaids, went to the same high school that Merry and I went to! In fact, Sally and I were in the same English class in grade 11 taught by Mr. Liandzi, one of the most insane, craziest teachers ever. (He was also my favourite teacher... hmmmm)

So since then, she got married to Wade down in Cuba a while ago. A really cool guy. They now live in Vancouver, which makes the meeting even more uncanny, considering we're located in Edmonton, we all met in Calgary, and all went to this wedding in Cochrane.

And now all of a sudden here we all are, a mini high school reunion. It was so neat so during the reception, we took Sally and Wade outside in the COLD and took a couple 'engagement style' shots of them.

Well, everyone was freezing after 3 minutes so here's what came out of the unplanned, rushed, half-frozen shoot.

Didn't turn out too bad, I'd say. It's always fun to run into people from the past and catch up! Posted by Picasa

Lest we forget

Today is Remembrance day here in Canada. Please take a moment to remember those who died for our freedom....

The Remembrance Day ceremony is something that we always attend every year. This year was no exception. But for the first time as long as I can remember, it feels like this day is starting to change. All my life, I've associated veterans with old people who fought in WW2 long ago. Decades before I was even born.

But now... there are so many that have died for us and for Canada in war, MANY of whom are younger than me. I think from now on, this day will be taking on a whole new significance as the people we are remembering are so much closer to home to these newer generations.

I personally do not support war. Call me hippy if you wish. BUT... I always have respected and admired those with the courage to choose to go out and risk their lives for us. I have utmost respect for them.

So I urge all you Canadians in the upcoming years... take 1 hour of your lives each Nov 11 to hear the rifles or cannons, and pay respect to those who gave their lives for us. Posted by Picasa

H.B.R.C.

So a happy birthday to Rob. It was a while ago but here are a couple pics I took from that night. I only had about 6 shots left on that roll and nobody sells Ilford Delta400 film at 7pm on a saturday. =( And yes, I still use film, but only for personal photos and only in black and white. And I use a 30 year old manual-everything camera. There is a certain quality about B&W film that I don't feel that digital can quite duplicate.

So thanks Rob, to another great year. Hard to believe we've been friends for 20 years already! Wow!

Here is Rob, Steve and I. Steve and I met 23 years ago. Time flies!

And this is Alicia! Whoa, she made ribs, potato casserole, chicken fingers, and they ordered in a huge platter of sushi too! I was in food heaven!! YES!!

And here we are again (along with Kathy) enjoying the food. Thanks guys!! We also played Scattergories and watched the movie Office Space. It was quite a fun night. Life is so wonderful when you have such good friends to share it with!

Crazy Me!

Erin and James just sent me this awesome picture that was taken on her wedding day by James' dad, Lindo! I love it, because I hardly have any pictures of myself!! Also, it reminds me of how much fun I have doing this! We were having a blast all day! Merry thinks I am incapable of looking 'normal' in any pictures. That might be because if you see me I'm wearing a goofy grin a lot more often than not. Smile!!! =) woo hoo!!!
Like I said, wedding photography isn't a job... it's just a way to make new friends and an excuse to hang out and share laughs with them all day! Oh yeah, and also an excuse to eat lots of food. yummy...Posted by Picasa

ICE cream!! =)

Got this awesome card from Wilson and Connie!
Now Merry and I get to go for some ice cream at the Marble Slab Creamery! Yum! They said I had to eat it outside in the cold. I wonder if it's because we went to the Second Cup during their shoot because it was freezing... and I ordered an ice cold blended chai while everyone else got a hot chocolate. Yeah, I'm wierd.

Thanks a bunch for the sweeeet card and gift certificates! We had fun that night and are also looking forward to the wedding! (Which should be much warmer... I hope. This is Alberta after all) You guys rock!!! Posted by Picasa
