Karen and Chris e-shoot!

We had the fortune of getting together with Karen and Chris for their super fun e-shoot! I have to thank them for going along with anything I asked. They climbed steep hills, climbed onto rusty metal, and waded through chest deep weed beds, among other things. You guys are such great sports!!

Vacation in California!

Merry and I just got back from a trip to California. We flew down to Los Angeles and drove up to San Francisco on the Pacific Coast Highway, and then flew back! We had SO much fun! There's too much to write about, but here's just a few pics of the trip.

A masked gunman was hiding by the restaurant we were eating at in Malibu. They blocked off the highway and a zillion cops, guns, chopper, dogs, and everything were there. We were locked in the restaurant for a couple hours.

This bench was put in such an absurd location:

This beach was awesome. Instead of soft sand, it was full of jade and moonstone and other neat rocks. we picked up a bunch of jade.

Stopped for some cool pics along the drive.

Visited this very cool old mission church in Carmel... it's like 300 years old.

Some of the forests were awesome!!

cute bird!

Jellyfish at the Monterey Aquarium:

As we neared San Fran, we got some serious fog issues:

Then we listened to some live jazz in San fran. this is Merry while we waited for the show to start. (no pics allowed during performance)

Some pics from walking around san fran downtown

Odessa and Joey's Wedding!

It was an amazing day for Odessa and Joey. The weather cooperated wonderfully, which can be unpredictable at the end of September. I guess the day was just meant to be!

We started out with the girls:

Then we hopped over to the guys. They were at a hotel. Odessa joked that Joey was kicked out of the house for the wedding. hahaha

Then it was ceremony time. Joey and the boys patiently waiting...

It was a lovely ceremony:

Then we headed to the beautiful Legislature grounds:

This was one hot group of girls! =)

The second cup for a little pick-me-up

And we walked Whyte Ave and had an attraction to graffiti:

haha, we stole a chair from the neighbouring restaurant. (we returned it of course)

And this is professional graffiti. wow!

haha, life was just zoomin' by

Stopped off at Tim Hortons with all the bikes! A couple of Joey's friends were there so they sat on a bike. I think we ran into 100 people Joey knew that afternoon; this guy knows EVERYONE.

The first dance. Reception was at the beautiful Fantasyland Hotel ballroom.

And then the traditional money dance!

Odessa and Joey, we thank you for hanging out and having fun, and scheduling a LOT of time for photos for a very relaxed and fun shoot. Odessa, you are such a sweetheart and Merry and I loved spending the day with you. And Joey, you have to be one of the friendliest guys I've ever met! (No wonder you know everybody) Do keep in touch!

POTN meet/workshop in Albany, NY!

So I went to NY for a cool little workshop in wedding shooting. The segment I was teaching was in creative lighting for wedding portraits. I had an absolute blast and loved meeting everyone!

We had three models come in, and 6 wedding gowns provided by a local bridal shop. It was held at the VERY beautiful Desmond Hotel and Conference Centre.

Here are a couple pics from the weekend. In this exercise I purposely placed our model, Heather, in the ugliest place I could find on the grounds, which was the parking lot infront of the big red shuttle bus. (Photo courtesy of Suzie Bastian)

And the point of the exercise was using creative lighting to get the most out of any location you are in.

Another parking lot shot. This is Mariah.

And we shot some indoors too, This is Amanda.

Here I am laughing at something (I forget what, I laugh at everything... hahaha) with some lighting gear close at hand. Thank you to Michael Umansky who let me use his lightstand for the day. (Photo courtesy of Sebastian Blais Photography)

And a couple behind the scenes shots:

To all my new friends: THANK you so much! I had SO much fun, and can't wait to see you again. Be sure to show me your new wedding shots with lighting taken to the next level! Then we'll get back together again and move on to multi-light setups!
