Help us!!! Bunnies!!!

Yesterday I discovered a couple of tiny bunnies who have taken up residence in our garden beside our house. At first I thought they were mice, but after seeing them clumsily hop away and took a closer look, I found out that they were tiny baby rabbits! There were two and both could fit in the palm of your hand:

We couldn't find a mother anywhere, nor a nest, so we're at a loss as to what to do. After researching wild rabbits on the internet, it says that the mother usually only comes by for a few minutes during the night, but the babies don't wander far from the nest. With no nest in sight, we have no idea if they are orphaned or if they aren't.

So if there are any bunny experts out there that could shed some light on the matter, please leave a comment. Seriously, we have no idea what to do. We don't want to interfere if the mother is around, but we don't want to leave them to die in our garden if they are orphaned. Who knows???

In any case, they are ridiculously cute. So if you have advice, PLEASE let us know!

Thanks!

Please please please do not mess with them at all.

If you touch the bunnies, they will die. End of story. I know it seems like they're cute and mammals and furry and like little cats but a) you can't take care of them b) if the mom smells you on them she WILL abandon them and c) they will die.

If mom has abandoned them, they stand a better chance of getting hungry and finding food than they do of you being able to raise them. *raises hand as the bunny expert lol*

Please don't touch them. :) They'll be ok. Bunnies are mainly food for other animals! haha Cute, but FOOD.

Thanks for the tips. Matt! No, we haven't touched them at all for the reasons you state. We have no intention of raising them, but we would just feel bad if we find them dead in our yard and didn't do anything. Our garden is bare with NO plants right now (we're gonna plant soon) so there's nothing to eat. Oh well, time will tell I guess.

Yep - leave them!

Mother rabbits often appear like they have abandoned their young, but it's mainly because they only are there for a very brief period each day. Here's a great FAQ for ya - http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/orphan.html
